During the last two decades, the field of plastic surgery has experienced a booming expansion. In 2019 alone, plastic surgeons around the country have performed more than 16 million procedures, with almost $17 billion spent. Quite a feat, right? More and more would-be patients are comfortable with entrusting themselves into the hands of plastic surgeons to achieve the desired aesthetic goals of their dreams.
Are you one of those people? That’s fantastic! Now that you’re ready to undergo a cosmetic procedure, the next step you have to take is choosing the right Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon for you. As you can imagine, this is a highly individualized process. Looking for proof of excellence, as well as trusting your gut instinct, can make the difference between a fantastic and a terrible experience.
Not All Plastic Surgeon are Created Equal
In this ever-growing field, not all plastic surgeons are created equal. Some plastic surgeons dedicate their lives to their work and make plastic surgery their lifetime mission; others, on the other hand, only become plastic surgeons for the money or prestige, without putting their soul into their practice.
Here at the Vinyard Institute of Plastic Surgery, William J. Vinyard, MD, FACS, believes that every plastic surgeon’s mission is to strive towards perfection, towards improving oneself, towards finding better ways to connect with their customers, and create long-lasting bonds based on mutual trust and respect. After all, as a patient, you are entrusting the plastic surgeon with your intimate dreams and goals. We are here to help you make this choice, so we’ve put together a list of four stages to help you select the right Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon for you!
#1: Start by Doing Your Research
When making such an important decision, you want to make sure that you’re entrusting yourself into the hands of a skilled, professional practitioner whose training and expertise are up to the standards.
In the field of plastic surgery, certifications are the mark of a serious plastic surgeon, and there is no more valuable certification than the Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon (BCPS). Offered by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ASPS), the BCPS certification proves the plastic surgeon’s numerous years of education and training.
To obtain this certification, candidates must go through six to eight years of plastic and reconstructive surgery training after medical school and pass rigorous examinations. Furthermore, the BCPS certification must be renewed periodically – this drives Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons towards improving themselves and staying up-to-date with all technological developments.
Are you looking for a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon in Florida? That’s perfect. Dr. Vinyard is a proud owner of the BCPS certification, an indisputable proof of his training, experience, and dedication.

#2: Reviews, Reviews, Reviews
Aside from actual thanks and gratitude, reviews are the most straightforward way for patients to show their content or discontent with their overall experience and results.
For preliminary research, patient reviews are invaluable. Make sure that you look for both quality and numbers. Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons with hundreds of reviews on popular websites (e.g., Google, RealSelf, etc.), social media (e.g., Facebook), and their own website are to be preferred to practitioners whose patients are reluctant to express their opinion.
Numbers are important, but so is review quality – the higher the number of 5-star reviews, the better. As in any busy practice, it’s impossible to please everybody, so it’s only natural for a couple of 2 or 3-star reviews to make their way into the list. However, this should not serve as a red flag against the plastic surgeon’s reputation. In some cases, these reviews belong to patients whose expectations exceeded tangible results and bear unreasonable grudges against the plastic surgeon.
As a rule of thumb, make sure that you look for patterns in reviews – if you find solitary bad reviews, it is more than possible that they do not reflect the reality. If, however, you find a solid pattern (e.g., bad customer service, lack of communication, etc.), the reviews are more trustworthy.
The Vinyard Institute of Plastic Surgery is home to an impressive number of positive reviews, a testament to Dr. Vinyard’s expertise and care for his patients.
#3: Before-and-After gallery
Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons require years of training to not only master anatomy but also the aesthetic aspects of plastic surgery. In other words, they are training themselves to become both surgeons and artists. While the anatomy of the human body can be learned from books and practice, the aesthetic aspect depends solely on the plastic surgeon and their perspective.
As true artists, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons take pride in their masterpieces and are more than glad to exhibit them for would-be patients to see. For that reason, whenever you come across a plastic surgeon, make sure that you check their before-and-after picture gallery. Are you impressed with their results? Do you see yourself achieving the same results? Fantastic! You have found your plastic surgeon. If, however, the pictures do not inspire enough confidence and/or are blurry, you have the right to continue your search.
Dr. Vinyard’s artistic achievements are essential to him, which is why he is more than proud to share his results with future patients.
Knowledge and experience are the prerequisites for a safe, successful procedure.

#4: Meet the Surgeon
Solid credentials, positive reviews, impressive pictures… One thing is left, and an essential one, I might add – meeting the plastic surgeon. Undergoing a cosmetic procedure requires healthy levels of trust and respect between the patient and the plastic surgeon. To be sure that you and the plastic surgeon are “clicking,” ask for a complimentary consultation and see for yourself whether you feel comfortable enough with your choice. Once again, nobody is rushing you, so do not proceed with your cosmetic procedure unless comfort and easy communication are assured. Always remember that it is the Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon’s honor and privilege to help you achieve your aesthetic goals.
Here at the Vinyard Institute of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Vinyard invites every single would-be patient for a complimentary consultation, during which he will be more than happy to answer questions and create a positive atmosphere, essential for a successful procedure.
