While Spider-Man remains one of the most popular superheroes in pop culture, not all things that combine the words “spider” and “man” (or woman) together stir excitement in the general public. This includes spider veins, which occur in an estimated 30%-60% of adults in the US. While spider veins may not cause spider superpowers, we here at Vinyard Institute of Plastic Surgery use our own laser “superpower” treatments to cause spider veins to vanish. Read below to learn more about how you can keep the “spider” in the comic books and make your spider veins disappear.
What Are Spider Veins?
Spider veins are small, damaged, dilated blood vessels that can form anywhere on the body as slim red squiggly lines appearing right below the skin. Not to be confused with varicose veins, which cluster through the skin, spider veins are smooth to the touch. While there are various reasons why spider veins may form, it’s usually due to weakened/broken branching blood vessels either from old age, pregnancy, long periods of inactivity, obesity, family history of spider veins, and other medical issues related to blood. Most spider veins do not lead to any health complications.
There are two general types of spider veins for cosmetic solutions: superficial and deeper vein spider veins. Cosmetic surgeons can address superficial spider veins. However, a vascular doctor must address problems related to the deeper veins, as those can be more serious.
How VIPS Treats Spider Veins
Here at Vinyard Institute of Plastic Surgery, we can help patients make their superficial spider veins vanish with our state-of-the-art EVO laser system. This procedure is performed in a series of laser treatments, has no physical downtime, and requires no anesthesia. A narrow handpiece can precisely deliver the right amount of laser pulses to safely destroy the blood vessels, which the body naturally reabsorbs. This causes blood flow to be directed deeper under the skin, out of sight. In addition, the EVO laser system allows William J. Vinyard, MD, FACS, to customize the laser wavelengths for precisely the area and amount being treated. As a result, EVO can often cause the superficial spider veins to vanish entirely or at least cause a significant reduction.
EVO can safely treat all body parts with superficial spider veins — including the face, arms, legs, and feet.
With a built-in cooling technology, EVO prioritizes patient comfort as well as excellent results. Not only does the cooling technology help keep the patient more comfortable during the laser treatment, but it also supports healing.
Teamwork Makes The Dream Work
We here at VIPS value patient safety above all else. This means before any EVO spider vein laser treatment, Dr. Vinyard will personally and thoroughly assess the veins to determine whether they are superficial and able to be treated in-office or whether they may be deeper veins that require a vascular doctor. He will refer his patients to the right vascular treatment center if the veins are deeper. Dr. Vinyard has many colleagues who excel in treating deep spider veins, and he will put his patients in contact so that they can receive proper treatment so those veins too can vanish.
For individuals who have many spider veins, it isn’t uncommon for both Dr. Vinyard and a vascular doctor to treat them together. After the vein assessment, Dr. Vinyard can treat all the superficial veins with the EVO laser system after the deeper veins have been successfully treated by a vascular doctor. Either way, Dr. Vinyard will ensure that your spider vein goals are reached in the most effective, safe, successful, and permanent way.
