Aging sucks. There isn’t any other way to put it. It is an irresistible result of growing older. As we grow older, we start to notice more undesirable attributes of aging reflected in the mirror: increased lines around the eyes, nose, mouth, and forehead. What’s more, is that gray hairs start finding their way into our once youthful heads of hair as well as facial hair for men. Even worse is hair loss! To compound matters, there seems to be more subcutaneous fat in the cheeks and below the chin than previously. Did I say that aging sucks?
In today’s article, I do have some rays of hope to offer to you. First, you aren’t alone. We all go through this inevitable and undesirable process. Second, there are many modern advances in cosmetics and procedures that can literally roll back years off of your face. One of these procedures is known as a brow lift, and its naming is quite like what it sounds. This procedure is relatively quick while providing lasting results that will make you look more youthful, rested, and bright-eyed.
What Is Brow Lift Surgery?
A brow lift surgery (also called forehead lift surgery) is an approach to facial rejuvenation that deals with the aesthetics of the upper face and brow by lengthening the space between the eyebrows and the upper eyelids. This cosmetic procedure provides an expansive list of benefits, such as:
- Reducing the excess skin that weighs down the eyelids;
- Smoothing existing forehead wrinkles;
- Elevating previously saggy eyebrows;
- Easing frown lines.
Decades of continual surgical improvement and adjustment to the patient’s different needs produced various brow lift approaches, some of them implying both minimal discomfort and a quick healing process. Due to its specialized training and high-performance equipment, the expert team at VIPS, led by Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon William J. Vinyard, MD, FACS, is here to ensure you the optimal treatment plan for a refreshed and youthful appearance!
Who Is a Brow Lift Candidate?
The earliest signs of natural aging occur between the ages of 25 and 30 and have to do with our facial muscles and skin. So, we shouldn’t be surprised, considering that our faces are hardly ever relaxed outside the time of sleep. Owing to this fact, the upper area of the face starts to change:
- The muscles slacken;
- Parts of the eyebrow descend lower than their natural position;
- The skin loosens and topples over the eyelids.
All of these combined factors bring about that undesired disharmony between facial look and inner vibration.
We don’t want to look sad when we are happy, angry when we are loving, tired when we are brimming with life! A brow lift seeks to help you rediscover that harmony necessary to show to the world your true self, with bright eyes and a relaxed expression.
How To Prepare for Your Procedure
Here at VIPS, we seek to prepare our patients for every procedure to achieve the desired results with minimal discomfort and a swift recovery time. For this reason, Dr. Vinyard will preliminarily examine every patient and decide if this treatment plan fits them by reviewing their medical history. If the first step is successful, the patient will receive medical advice for a safe procedure.
For instance, Dr. Vinyard will ask smokers to take a break from their habit for a while. Likewise, alcohol consumption and particular medication (especially aspirin or other anti-inflammatory drugs, which can cause excessive bleeding) are to be, if not altogether interrupted, at least minimized.
How a Brow Lift Is Done
When considering having a brow lift, there are at least four approaches from which our surgeon can choose the best for our specific case.
The Traditional or Open Incision (i.e., Classic Lift)
The incision is made at the top of the head, behind the hairline, with the advantage of concealing the surgical scar. It is recommended especially for patients with both sagging brows and frown lines.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
A more modern technique is the endoscopic forehead lift, a minimally invasive procedure during which several small incisions are made behind the hairline. The surgeon will insert through one of these incisions a thin tube equipped with a camera to help him precisely reposition the forehead tissue.
Trichophytic Incision
For most patients who have, by their genetics, a strong hairline with little risk of recession, the surgeon may choose a trichophytic incision, which is placed right along the hairline.
Lateral Brow Lift
A sagging brow can be bothersome to lift, but nowadays, we have a unique technique for them. A lateral brow lift (also called temporal brow lift) entails an incision within the hairline above the temples. This temporal incision helps Dr. Vinyard lift the eyebrow’s outer area especially.
Frequently Asked Questions About Brow Lift Procedures
What Is the Cost of a Brow Lift?
An estimate of costs will be discussed after the preliminary examination, in which the specific approach will be established, together with anesthesia or other factors. The price will vary from one treatment plan to another, considering the needs of every patient who has chosen our expert team at VIPS.
Do I Need a Brow Lift or a Facelift?
Although they are commonly combined, a brow lift and a facelift are two different approaches to rejuvenation. Some of our patients discover after the preliminary examination that they do not need a brow lift but only a facelift or vice versa.
What Is the Brow Lift Healing Time?
The recovery process will come in small steps until you can finally return to your everyday life. During this healing time (which lasts between 2-4 weeks), you should avoid any activity that might cause an exceeding heart rate to prevent bleeding.
Are Brow Lift Results Permanent?
Our expert team at VIPS ensures that the results of the brow lift surgery will last for years. Nevertheless, the normal aging process cannot be avoided entirely, but having a healthy lifestyle can slow it down!
Will the Procedure Change My Eye Shape?
The brow lift surgery aims to change the position of your brows, not the eye shape. However, repositioning the eyebrows may slightly change your eye shape: they will look bigger and radiant!
Is the Procedure Performed Under General or Local Anesthesia?
This outpatient procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia or IV sedation.
