— Hello, my dear Lily! I’m delighted with how my first childbirth went! I had an excellent and attentive obstetrician! And the child resembles me so much! I hope your last childbirth went as well as mine!
— I’m so happy for you, Amber! Congratulations on the new family member! Unfortunately, my second pregnancy was not as easy as the first, especially because of my weight loss. Hopefully, I will get back in shape by having a Brazilian Butt Lift in my Mommy Makeover!
— Oh, I’ve read much about this procedure because I thought about it, too. However, my sister-in-law is a specialized practitioner and strongly advised me to try other approaches for several reasons. I remember she sent me an article about this. Let me send it to you!
What Is a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)?
A Brazilian Butt Lift is a cosmetic approach to buttocks enhancement and recontouring by transferring fat from other body areas through liposuction. It is a highly sought-after surgical procedure for body contouring in the hip area.
What Is a Mommy Makeover?
A mommy makeover gathers multiple procedures in one session to achieve the pre-pregnancy look faster. It addresses the needs and goals of mommies seeking to regain the body contour and youthfulness they had before pregnancy. We know that a woman’s body goes through many changes during pregnancy, such as:
- Breasts lose their perkiness and become saggy;
- Weight change;
- The skin loses its elasticity;
- The appearance of stretch marks;
- A stretched-out belly button.
Mommy makeover procedures seek to address all these pregnancy changes by multiple rejuvenating procedures:
- Breast surgery (e.g., breast lift and breast augmentation);
- Removal of excess skin and fat in the abdomen (tummy tuck);
- Removal of excess fat (liposuction);
- Vaginal rejuvenation (FEMtite).
In addition, pregnancy may also change the curve and contour of your gluteal area, making the buttocks saggy and flat, which is why some women desire to regain their pre-pregnancy form through a Brazilian Butt Lift. But should a BBL be a part of your mommy makeover?
Can You Combine BBL and Mommy Makeover?
Although some plastic surgeons will include a BBL in the mommy makeover, the expert team at VIPS, led by Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. William J. Vinyard, MD, FACS, does not recommend this approach due to several factors related to the patient’s safety and comfort!
What Risks Does a BBL Carry?
The numbers show that the BBL is one of the riskiest cosmetic procedures with a significantly high death rate. The plethora of risks associated with a BBL has to do with the procedure’s risky technique.
First, fat is extracted from a body area where it is not needed, and immediately purified. Next, the fat graft is injected into the patient’s buttocks, not into other fatty tissue (because a big part of it would be absorbed), but into muscle.
But here’s the catch: the muscle is highly vascularised. So, sometimes, blood vessels get damaged during a BBL, leading to fat penetration into the gluteal blood vessels and potentially causing a fat embolism.
You may think: why is this such a big deal? This fat embolism can travel to the patient’s vital organs (i.e., brain, heart, lungs), creating a life-threatening blockage! The risk is even bigger when an unlicensed practitioner performs the procedure in non-approved facilities (at a lower price but using life-threatening techniques)!
Prioritizing the patient’s safety, Dr. Vinyard and his expert team at VIPS do not recommend this procedure and strongly advise patients to search for alternatives. Besides being risky, a BBL involves a difficult recovery period. When a BBL is part of a mommy makeover, the patient must avoid sleeping on both their stomach and glutes for at least 6 weeks, causing unwanted discomfort. So, should we include the BBL surgery in a mommy makeover set of procedures? The answer is clearly: NO!
Should I Replace BBL With Another Body Contouring Procedure?
However, not all hope is lost! There is a safer way to achieve your body contouring goals that does not imply such a burdensome recovery process. Our Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Vinyard, replaces the Brazilian Butt Lift with BODYtite to achieve the patient’s aesthetic goals in a safe, FDA-approved, and minimally invasive approach!
BODYtite is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that seeks to tighten the skin and dissolve fat for easier liposuction removal. Before the treatment, we review the patient’s medical history to ensure that BODYtite is right for them. In the initial stage of the treatment, a local anesthetic is injected into the planned treatment areas so that the procedure has minimal discomfort if any at all. Then, using a two-piece BODYtite device, Dr. Vinyard will heat both the fatty layer and the skin’s surface area to generate collagen and elastin, dissolve fat cells, and tighten the skin. Finally, the heated fatty tissue is removed through liposuction. After 2-3 hours in the procedure room, you’ll be ready to enjoy your body-contouring results!
You will be able to see some of your BODYtite results in the mirror immediately! However, the treatment’s final results will be revealed in the upcoming months:
- 25-45% fat reduction in the treatment body area;
- Better skin elasticity and a visible tightening due to increased collagen levels.
Since the BODYtite procedure’s aim is fat removal, body contouring, and skin tightening, not weight loss, the ideal candidates should be near their ideal weight.
Can BODYtite Be Used As a Replacement for BBL in a Mommy Makeover?
We believe BODYtite is not only a replacement but also a safer and more secure treatment suited for mommies who want to regain their buttocks’ pre-pregnancy form. Fat bulges will be eliminated during the procedure, and your buttocks’ skin will be tightened, giving you that sought-after aesthetic. Combining the BODYtite with a tummy tuck and a breast lift might be the best, safest, and most comfortable way to regain your pre-pregnancy body!
